金融工程/金融數學（Financial Engineering/Financial Mathematics）（以下簡稱“金工”）是以數學和計算機知識為基礎和工具，建立金融的模型來解決金融問題的學科。金工集金融、數學和計算機科學知識于一體，通常由商學院、文理學院的數學系和工程學院的老師們一起授課，其課程主要集中于金融領域。很多金工的項目有其他叫法，如Quantitative Finance，Computational Finance，但實質上學的都是一樣的。
開設金融工程的學校并不多，USNEWS前100的學校里面只有30多所開設有該項目。有的金融工程設置在工程學院下，有的在商學院下，有的在文理學院等，但對學生的要求其實差不多，都要求學生有比較強的的數學和計算機能力。大部分學校的普遍要求學生修過線性代數、高級微積分、微分方程、概率統計，C++，MATLAB等，有的學校還對學習時間和分數有要求，可見金工的課程要求是比較高的。整體來說，金融工程的錄取率較低，對于學生的各方面能力要求較高。
金融工程的學生畢業后可以選擇的工作非常多，起薪也非常高，名校畢業的學生起薪可以達到10萬美金。目前大家選擇比較多的主要有一些知名的咨詢公司如貝恩咨詢；銀行如花旗銀行；其他的如保險公司、政府機構、等等也都有很多金工的學生。
